Remarks at the Brandenburg Gate

Sculpture and site-specific Performance, 2016

(3 engraved plywood Panels - 4x8ft each)

“Remarks at the Brandenburg Gate by Ronald Reagan Marwa Benhalim” - A is the engraved representation of my handwritten annotation, redaction, and transformation of President Ronald Reagan's Remarks at the Brandenburg Gate on June 12th, 1987 and interjection of my own text with it. The final text/ speech moves through the questioning of borders, identity, and revolution while calling for the dismissal of division in the world. The

engravings monumentalize the text in size and engrave it as a symbol of importance, making it seemingly permanent and elegiac, while it is actually ever-changing.
